Please hold off on renewing your GVCC membership until later this month. I need to reset the database and add the ’12 race calendar in so marshal dates are available. Check back in a few weeks, thanks! (ps: Spring Giros are only 8 weeks away!) – MM

GVCC BAR – Best All Around Rider
Posted on | November 20, 2011 | No Comments
Introducing the GVCC BAR (Best All Around Rider) Competiton, formally known as “G-Tour Overall Champion”. For 2012, the GVCC permitted weekend events will be added into the points competition with the following rules:
- Races include: Bloomfield, Bristol, FMV GP (3 races) and the JD TT (JD TT is weighted equally with the RRs). Six races total.
- Top ten GVCC riders within the top 20 places will earn triple points: 30,24,21,18,15,12,9,6,3,3.
- Bonus points for top 5 placing overall in event: 10, 7, 5, 3, 1
- Category races only, no BAR points for Masters races
- When the race has a combined 4/5 field, the points will be awarded separately, however, riders still must finish in the top 20 overall to be eligible for BAR points
- When there is a separate 3 field, the Cat 1,2 BAR points will be awarded 1st, followed by the category 3 placings. For example: If if only 6 A riders place in the top 20 at Bristol, then the BAR points for places 7 through ten will go to the top placing GVCC riders in the 3 category
FAQ:
Q: How will the scoring be managed?
A: I will make an update to the current G-Tour points system to include and calculate the points for weekend events.
Q: Why do I need to finish in the top 20?
A: 20 is a reasonable number of results to request from officials and promoters. It would be too difficult to dig further than 20 places for results.
Q: Why triple points? That is a lot of points!
A: It is equal the total amount of GTour Training Series points available. There are 6 weekend races (a possible win of 240 points) which is about equal to 18 Gtour RR’s (180 points) plus all prime and TT points.
Q: Are BAR points based on actual placing in the race? Or based on order of the top 10 GVCC riders?
A: Points are based on the order of the top 10 GVCC riders. Bonus points are then added to the riders total for top five overall placings in the event: 10, 7, 5, 3, 1. Example: if the best GVCC riders in a race placed, 3rd, 6th and 8th, they will earn 35 (30+5 bonus pts), 24, and 21 points respectively.
Q: Why can’t I get BAR points in the Masters races.
A: BAR is for categories only. For scoring purposes categories have to sync up with the current training series. You should still race in the Masters races if you choose, you just will not earn any BAR points.
Q: But I heart G-Tour. What will happen to the G-Tour champion?
A: There will still be a separate G-Tour Road, TT and Prime awards. This competition basically incorporates all GVCC events into our calculation.
2012 G-Tour B4 to A upgrades
Posted on | November 20, 2011 | No Comments
New for 2012 will be temporary passes to the A group for B4 riders who have 60% of the required USAC upgrade points toward a cat 3 upgrade (12 points). You will be allowed to ride in the A group for 10 weeks. If you have not earned your cat 3 within this timeframe, you will be regulated back to the B4s. Points scored in A Gtours will be scored in the A category and separately from your B4 total. BAR points scored in Cat 4 races will be scored in the B4 category and separately from your A total.
Because of the complexity of scoring and managing the categories in the BAR and G-Tour, all A riders should be Cat 3 or higher. I would like any Cat 4′s who have been grandfathered in the A group over the years to downgrade themselves to the B4 group starting in 2012. -MM
2012 Thursday Night World’s
Posted on | November 20, 2011 | No Comments
Introducing GVCC Thursday Night Worlds. Open to A and select B4 riders, this will be a no-points, bragging rights only training night. This training event will be run on the same night and course as the B5s, so we will have marshals. B4 riders must have minimum of 2 yrs racing experience in category 4 races to participate.
Marshaling in 2012
Posted on | November 20, 2011 | 1 Comment
Marshaling is key to our safety and all members of the GVCC are required to marshal either 2 G-Tour training events or 1 GVCC weekend event. New in 2012 is the introduction of Marshal Coordinators. Dan Barney and Brendan Housler will fill this role. Each week they will send email reminders and they will keep track of members missing their marshal duty. Please note, they are not marshal matchmakers for date swaps. You are committed to the marshal date you sign up for. If you cannot make it, it is your responsibility to find a teammate or other USAC licensed rider to fill in for you. Missing your marshal duty will result in suspension from racing until you marshal a race, plus pay a monetary fine (fine amount to be determined by the Marshal coordinators). Check back on 2012 for the updated schedule and Membership application which includes marshal sign up.
