Racing 5-13;
Men's A - On a beautiful early summer evening on a course that sees its fair share of bunch sprints, a healthy crowd of A riders battled for supremecy. The attacks started early and often with no single break getting more than 15-20 seconds on the hungry pack. Regarldess of the riders, every attempt to bridge was met with alarm bells as the entire field responded by ramping up the pace and closing the gap to the break. In the end it came down to a bunch sprint up the incline led out with a strong attack by Brian Donato which was closed down by Scheske (PC) and Mattern (R3). In the end Scheske sealed the deal, took down the win and increased his lead on the overall.

Women - 13 women came out to the Chili course on an absolutely perfect night (except for all the flat tires). After one lap of neutral, things heated up quickly with Labombard (Dundee's) leading the way and setting the pace for the night. The attacks were constant - as were the counters! The responses from the group where phenomenal as we all just buried it and regrouped quickly. It was great to see everyone working together and putting in so much effort!! On lap four, the lead group had whittled down to 8 women. After the second prime the field split as LaBombard and Lydon (FMV) got a gap. D'Angelo (Pedallers) and Valvo (FMV) bridged and the four picked it and left the others behind for the last two laps. In the end, D'Angelo timed her move perfectly and came around for the win with LaBombard, Valvo and Lydon finishing in that order behind her.

MESSAGE TO ALL: Watch those yellow line violations. Setting up for a turn should not involve swinging wide on an open course. Violation of this rule jeopardizes the entire club.

GVCC Classic (Bloomfield) presented by

Full Moon Vista Bike and Sport

A great day for the race and some great racing! Thanks to all the marshals for making the event possible... you all did a fantastic job!  Our drivers were great too and really helped make our race function well.  Special thanks to the crew from Full Moon Vista for providing so many things that I don't have room to write them all - but to say the least, Kyle for driving our wheels around for 3 hours, Scott and Kyle for setting up tents, and keeping the start/finish humming, paying races out etc!  Thank also to Mike McCartin, our Chief Referee, and to Yellow Jacket Racing for the chip timing.

Full results are posted on the Yellow Jacket Racing website: www.yellowjacketracing.com .

G-Tour, 4/15/08:

The A group was bolster by the next generation on Tuesday, with Mike Mathis (Empire) and Jeff Zygo (PC) returning from a winter in Arizona and looking to show off some early season fitness.  As expected, the racing was fast and furious form the gun - sparked by a PC attack, the pack responded, counter by Castor (PC) and Mathis and then Dan Staffo (Dundees)!  As soon as it came together it would start over again, with Dietrick (Dundees) and Zygo adding to the mix and even our Buffalo visitors of Nye (PC) and Frank Mesi throwing it down!  Finally the break snapped clear at half a lap and the chase that followed shattered a stunned field.  The break ahead - Mattern (Nalgene), Mathis, Staffo, Nye, Castor, Dietrick, Beaudrie (FMV), Lombart (FMV). The chasers at 30 seconds were being pulled apart at the seems by Preferred Care and FMV once they lost riders from the break.  The constant pressure shelled riders from the break and chase and in the end after 35 km it was down to Matter, Mathis, Castor and Lombart in front with Scheske (PC), Zygo, Grimm (FMV) leading a tattered chase 20 seconds in arears.  It was never to make contact though as the finish came too quickly.  In the end Mattern nipped a powerful MAthis for the win with Castor taking the 3rd place trailed in by Lombart.  The scraps were left for Scheske in 4th and a stuggling Dietrick in 5th.

The women had a fired up event with the attack machine Shana Lydon (FMV) throwing down leg breaking relentless attacks from the shrp end of the race!  The ferociousness and constant punches took their toll as riders fell away leaving only Abby Newell (Terry) and a strong Mary D'Angelo (Peddlers) to contest Lydon.   In the end Lydon played the ace though and launched on the last roller before the finish.  Her two breakaway partners could only watch with smoke coming out of the quads and Lydon powered to the finish for her first ever victory!  Abbie displayed a fine show of speed to come around for second with D'Angelo rolling in for a hard fought 3rd.

Memberships MUST be post marked one week prior to first event.  Hand delivering is accepted ONLY if dropped one week prior to first event.

Note for Tuesdays:

The women's race is for the women. Scott Page or myself will ride with their race as neutral assistance to help the new racers learn.  ALL A and B rider men, please refrain from jumping into the women's race and disrupting their event.

Note for ALL event nights:

Please be aware when you are warming up (as well as after the events start), that the roads are OPEN to traffic.  Last week several riders caused a LONG line of cars to stack up and continued to ride 3 abreast.  One driver took time to calmly and politely remind us our obligation. - TS

G-Tour, first stop....

The G-Tour made it's first stop at Victor for the As last week, with an ambitious field, and some spring temps.  PC kicked off the hostilities with Scheske off the front and a quick responding field.  Lap one almost snapped a break with Dietrich (Dundees) and Scheske leading over the climb and Spantcheck (Light Spec) joining them.  The trio was quickly reeled back by a hard charging field led by R3 and FMV squads.  The following laps saw a flurry of attacks and soon the field was whittled down.  With one to go Paris (R3-Nalgene) launched a move and gained a healthy 30 seconds.  It triggered the alarm bells though and it was PC on the front pulling it back.  Coming into the final assault on the "mount", FUll Moon Vista spent some riders for some pulls and cagey veteran Taylor Hogan (Dundees) took a hard final pull leading into the hill.  Paris gave a last gasp only to be overtaken by a PC driven chase and counter attack over the top.  It was groupo compacto at 3 km to go though and Tom Emrich took matters into his hands with a long pull.  The Orange Armada took control at 1 km to go though and drove the speeds over 55 kph, and it was single file.  Ryan Nye (Preferred Care), tucked in nicely, tried to come around for the win, but with a 12 cog mis-functioning, was stalled out and Dietrick started coming around with Al Lombart (FMV) on his left.  PC went to plan B with Scheske dropping into the 11 for a half wheel gain and the win. Dietrick held on for 2nd with Lombart in third, Nye 4th and the Nalgene guys settling for 4th on the day.

WOMEN:  The ladies raced aggressive and smart with a two-woman break up the road of LaBombard (Dundees) and Lydon (FMV).  The duo worked hard and efficiently to gain on the pursuers and eventually made it in with LaBombard taking the top honors over Lydon, who has shown herself as a real threat for the G-Tour!

B riders took to the TT course in Rush on a spectacular spring evening.  The bar has been set with some fine times!

G-Tour is here!
